Elhoucine and Zakkaria are the founders of the music group Awal Naitma. The classical instruments used today are the guitar and djembe, as well as other musical instruments.
They use the Amazight (Berber) language from the Zagora region, the last major oasis town in southern Morocco before the Sahara. They were influenced by the internationally renowned bands Tinariwen and Imarhan.
