“Tanout Niemal” = Well that brings happiness. We have a dream. To reclaim farmland on the edge of the desert.
During the Covid period in 2020, many people were out of work, especially in the tourism industry. Many of these (mostly) men, who earn money in the cities for their families in the south, were without work. Farming in the south was no longer possible because, for various reasons, there was no longer enough water. The land was there, but what could be done if there was no water available? Building wells is very expensive and often not rewarded with success. Wells that were previously dug to a depth of between 20 and 60 meters have dried up.
Well, we tried. Small water jugs financed the drilling attempt at a spot marked by a water dowser, and after 10 days of nervous anticipation, the project found water. Everyone said that God must have helped.
A year later, it was decided to plant date palms, which could produce fruit after 3-5 years. Again, many people helped financially, and now, in September 2025, around 100 palm trees are growing.
